Summer
Update
As the summer heat
comes in, seems like a fine time to head to the woods.
Interested in a plant walk this Sunday, June 13 at 10 am? The
deep woods of Barnardsville are especially beautiful this
time of year as the woodland medicinals start blooming.
Directions from
Asheville: Take I-26 West (19/23 North) to Exit 15,
Jupiter/Barnardsville. Make a right off the exit and drive
about 10 miles, until the pavement turns to dirt. Cross one
bridge where the road briefly turns back to pavement. The
next pull-off on the left is where we will meet. Only a few
cars can fit here, so if full park on the side of the road.
Our walk takes place rain or shine!! (unless
there's a total downpour).
Sign up ahead of
time and save money! The walk is $15, or $12 if you pay ahead
at this paypal link right here:

Mid-Summer Session
begins July 13 – no pre-requirements!!
There is a new format for the Summer Program at
the Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine! We
are breaking up the 6-month program into three 8-week
long semesters that can be taken individually or as
one continuous program.
Each year I learn more and go deeper with herbal
medicine, and each year we add more guest teachers to round
out the classes. So every few years we raise tuition to
reflect the rise in the quality and depth of our program.
However, the most important thing is that people
learn about natural food and herbal medicine. By breaking the
course into 3 sections that can be paid for as they occur we
are doing our best to accommodate students with the
desire to deepen their knowledge of herbal food and medicine,
but who do not have the resources in hand to pay for the
whole year.
The
flow of classes will remain essentially the same as the
syllabus we've built over the past ten years, but each
semester will have a different focus.
Plant
walks will be a big part of every semester.
Semester
One
(May
4 – June 23) focusing on plant identification and wild
harvesting, first aid, making herbal medicines, and Chinese
Medicine.
Semester
Two
(July
13 – September 1) will go deeper into herbs for the
systems of the body (anatomy, physiology and herbs for the
organs), nutrition, and Ayurveda.
Semester
Three
(September
7 - October 27) will focus on pulling it all together with
clinical skills, pathology, protocols, counseling, and
business skills.
Students
can take either Semester One or Semester Two independently,
but must do both before taking Semester Three.
This
change came around in direct response to our present economy.
We are rolling back our prices to last year’s tuition
of $2400,
with the individual semesters available for $850.
So
please do take advantage of this special opportunity yourself
or pass it on to a friend and come study with us! We are
looking forward to sharing a life-changing experience with
you. And remember – since an education in herbal
medicine is the best health insurance you can have, you’ll
end up saving money in the long run.
The journey begins
here, with our Herbalist
Training Programs.
